Is it the new monolith of culture? Or simply a symbol of capitalism taken to the most disgusting, self-important look-at-me-Dad lengths?
With an opening salvo of Dubai is finally financially bankrupt – but it has been morally bankrupt all along. The idea that Dubai is an oasis of freedom on the Arabian peninsular is one of the great lies of our time. Yes, it has Starbucks and Dunkin' Donuts and the Gucci styles, but beneath these accouterments, there is a dictatorship built by slaves. You can tell this is not going to be exactly pro-Dubai.

Protecting the forrests has never been more important. Which is why the New York Times is running a big article on it. Because the New York Times is mainly on paper. Which is made from forests. Anyone smell the sweet aroma of irony?
BTW, make the most of the NYT because Murdoch intends to make it subscriber only from next year, which means it'll be gone in eighteen months. Sunday, November 29

I received my first DMCA takedown notice today. I published publicly-available IRS information about the nonprofit Kwaze-Kwasa [USA] Inc. Kwaze-Kwasa sent a letter to my ISP asking that it be taken down. I do not know why they want to keep this public information off the Internet, but I do know that the law lets them. For those who aren’t familiar, the Digital Millennium Copyright Act contained a section known as OCILLA (distinct from its also-famous anticircumvention provisions) that regulates publishing copyrighted material online. Interesting story about manipulating the copyright laws.

Alber Elbaz speaks about “lightness” during interviews before his collections. I think his summation of what women need seems pretty accurate. Yes, we need lightness/ease/mobility. However, at no stage in the Interview does he talk of the harrowing pain which caused him to waste his life making things appear to levitate |
